Baxian Caves

The Baxian Caves are a collection of sea caves that were pushed out of the ocean due to the rising of the Earth’s crust in the area. The caves are named after the legendary Eight Immortals from Taoist mythology. Shrines have now been placed in many of the caves (the Eight Immortals are symbols of good luck) and many people will pray here as they pass through.

There are walkways between all the caves, and it is worth a little explore if you are here on a weekday. Weekends tend to get insanely overcrowded, so getting around can be slow going.

The sound of the crashing waves from the nearby beach echoes eerily from the mouth of the biggest (Lingyan) cave. Bring good footwear if you intend to explore the other caves.
