The 4030m long Maokong Gondola was opened on July 4th, 2007 to take tourists from the area behind Taipei Zoo in Muzha, to the famous tea plantations in the hills of Maokong. Service was suspended on October 2nd, 2008 when one of the supporting pillars shifted in a land slide, then the gondola was restarted in April 2010 after extensive repairs.
The 6 seat cabins give visitors stunning views of the Maokong area and north over Taipei to Yangmingshan. Glass bottomed cars are now available, but none of them are air conditioned so they can be very hot and sticky in the summer months.
The ride is cheap at 50nt each way, and takes around 20 minutes. When it first opened the lines snaked on for over an hour, but go on a weekday and there should be no queue at all.
