Shakadang Trail

The Shakadang Trail begins close to the mouth of the gorge and runs alongside the river of the same name, offering a chance to further examine the geology of Taroko.

The trail continues for some 4.4km towards a cabin and although you aren’t allowed to swim in the water, you will probably find most visitors dipping their toes in the sparkling turquoise water at some point. The whole trip should take about 3 hours, but if you are short on time, walking the first km is good enough.

Along the route, local aborigines usually set up shop in certain places to sell their local produce and handmade jewelry.
